Scott Pilgrim VS The World
“Bread makes you fat?!”
In honor of Thor 2 coming out today, Scott Pilgrim VS The World starts out Superhero Week here at the blog of joy. This is one of the most captivating and fun movies out there. I was genuinely excited every time the movie didn’t end where I thought it would. The first time I saw this in theatres, I was so pumped up afterward I’m pretty sure I could’ve defeated anybody’s exes.
The cast is absolutely brilliant: Aubrey Plaza, Michael Cera, Anna Kendrick, Chris Evans, Mae Whitman, Kieran Culkin, the list goes on and on and they’re all incredible. I have to admit, I’ve never read the comic books, so I don’t know how true to the original the writers stay, but the writing is amazing. The jokes are smart, the timing is fantastic, and Wallace as a character provides awkwardness while remaining the coolest person on screen.
What makes this film unique: It combines video games with live action in a way that it’s so obvious, but also so subtle you just accept it. It was excellently executed, and so unbelievable that it was completely acceptable in the realms of this movie.
Most underrated characters: Wallace, I shouldn’t have to explain why; Julie, because she’s played by Aubrey Plaza; Lucas Lee for being hardcore and actually hilarious.
